About NCC
The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is the Indian military cadet corps with its headquarters in New Delhi. It is open to the school and college students on a voluntary basis. The National Cadet Corps is a tri-service organisation comprising the Army, Navy, and Air Force, aimed at grooming the youth into disciplined and patriotic citizens.
Establishment in Patna College
The NCC Club at Patna College was established in 1949, and students began receiving NCC training shortly after. By 1950, the college’s NCC unit had progressed significantly and was raised from a platoon to a company. In 1951, the Patna College Company was declared the second best in the entire battalion, with Ram Dinesh Singh named as the best cadet.
Achievements
The college’s NCC Club was inaugurated by Chief Minister Shri Krishna Singh. In 1953, the Patna College Company was declared the best at an NCC camp in Ranchi. In 1992, a cadet from Patna College was selected for the Republic Day Parade in Delhi and the Guard of Honor. That same year, under Officer Sushil Kumar Pandey was selected to visit Bangladesh under the Youth Exchange Program (YEP-NCC).
In 2019, Manish Kumar Barnwal, a student of the Economics Department, was awarded a medal, certificate, and a cheque of Rs 6,000 by the Cadet Welfare Society as the best cadet in October.
Current Leadership
Mr. Deependra Kumar Arya, Assistant Professor, Department of Sanskrit, is the current programme officer of the NCC group at Patna College, continuing to guide students in their cadet training.
