The Department of Hindi, Patna College, Patna has a glorious history. It came into existence in 1936. At that time, there was also a provision for post-graduate studies. The establishment of the Rai Bahadur Ganga Hindi Chair and the permission to offer M.A. in Hindi from the next year at Patna College. The introduction of the vernacular section for the first time in the Patna College magazine. In 1952, post-graduate teaching was discontinued here. Patna College became a purely undergraduate college. In 1957, post-graduate classes started at Darbhanga House. The undergraduate and post-graduate curricula remained the same. Teachers from both UG and PG contributed collectively. Until the 70s, Hindi Honours for the students of Patna Women's College was also conducted in this department. In 1929, the Hindi Parishad was established in the college. Since then, the Parishad has been the center for organizing literary activities. On November 22, 1931, the arrival of the legendary writer Munshi Premchand. Apart from him, eminent writers, critics, and thinkers like Acharya Ramchandra Shukla, Banarsi Das Chaturvedi, Ramkumar Verma, Maithilisharan Gupt, Harivansh Rai Bachchan, Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, Jainendra, Kedarnath Singh, Namvar Singh, Manager Pandey, and others visited the college. In 2016, a two-day national seminar was organized on the birth centenary of Acharya Nalinvilochan Sharma. The birth anniversaries of writers like Tulsidas, Premchand, and Bharatendu have been regularly celebrated. Currently, the Department of Hindi also offers a graduate honors course in Mass Communication. Within a short time, the course has become quite popular. The department is continuously receiving support from media professionals and media experts.
