HOD PROFILE
The Department of Geography was established in 1927-28 to carryout undergraduate courses in Geography and is the second oldest department in the country after the Department of Geography, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. Gradually postgraduate courses were introduced in the year 1949 becoming the 8th oldest post-graduate department in India. Located in the Science Block of Patna College, Department of Geography has since its inception developed as an Integrated Department with the Department of Geography, Patna College. The Patna College Geographical Society (integrated) has been one of the vibrant units of the department which was established in 1929 to inculcate the interest of geographical understanding and organizing various academic as well as extra-curricular activities by the students. The Department of Geography has been the secretariat of the Association of Geographers, Bihar and Jharkhand (AGBJ) since its inception in 1999. Moreover, the department has been endowed with the Special Assistance Programme by UGC at the level of DRS-I (UGC-SAP-DRS-I) for 5 years (April 2010 to March 2015).
The Department of Geography has been a leading centre for quality education and research in Geography in the Post Independence era. At present, it is one of the oldest departments in the country having a team of scholarly teachers and well-equipped laboratory and a very rich library with more than 12,000 books, journals and magazines.

- To include new frontiers of geography in teaching and research. e.g., GIS and Remote sensing, Geo informatics, advanced cartographic techniques and digital mapping.
- To address the issues of Disaster Management and Environmental Planning.
- Interactive session to create knowledge in ‘thinking’ and ‘exploring’ beyond the text.
- Facilitate professional competence and socially conscious human resource.
- To revive Centre for Development Studies to carry out research projects.
